Moso Moso, a venue with a slick exterior and a modern logo that suggested a smart, well designed interior but one which reeked of the contemporary style epidemic currently engulfing Manchester.

The clientele were dressed to impress inferring that the venue is not a place to exhibit your latest Nike purchase! The musical medium was from the early 80s stretching to the 90s and on arrival the DJ’s were swaying the crowd with selective soul that was melodic to the ear, but perhaps not enough to entice the cluster of clubbers onto the central space of the dance-floor.

As time passed and people’s shyness dispersed, the dance-floor enveloped its crowd and the night seemed to settle into an ambient flow. People were enlightened although not euphoric and a dose of hysteria was definitely needed.

Soul Control Verdict:
It was a pleasant, inoffensive night where the tunes made us smile, but didn’t quite touch the depths of our soul.

Mrs Def D & I and the rest of the Longsight entourage descended onto Oxford Road on a bitterly cold Manchester night to attend Elegance at Moso Moso which takes place every last Saturday of the month. The DJ’s on the night were Blz, Leaky Fresh and the tag team of Tufty T and Delite. During the mid nineties, all these DJ’s had regular slots on the extremely successful unlicensed radio station that in the words of my favourite MC Beenie Man "Set the Trend ", Soul Nation 104.6FM,

As we gained access to the club, one of my first observations was that there was a 2 in 2 out policy at the door and the security were friendly.

Once inside the club I was quite impressed with the large dance-floor which was full and there was a large bar with lots of bar staff in attendance, actually who has ever been to a club with not enough bar-staff on?  I also met lots of people of whom I hadn't seen in a long time. It was a friendly atmosphere with a glammed up crowd who were into their music. Lots of Old Skool classics were spun from Tammy Payne to Gold in the Shade and the Gap Band etc….

I was amazed to see so many DJ’s at this event, check the photos of the night elsewhere on this site. I would recommend this night to anybody over 25 who is looking for a night out and wants to enjoy the usual Old Skool classics from back in the day.

Soul Control Verdict:
Overall a good night was had by all.
